Not obvious since you cannot print from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).

Printing draws its paper from the paper tray(s) in the printer.

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Print Document

Reminder:  No duplex shortcut?  Select Everyday Printing (or similar) and adjust the settings

What else?

You can SCAN a document loaded into the ADF.

How you select the source depends on your Operating System / version and the software you are using to Scan.

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan Document setup

Example - HP Smart - Mobile (iOS) - Scan - Select Source
