I recently changed my router and cannot get the Smart Tank 7005 printer to talk to it. For a while I was able to print by directly accessing the printers wireless connection, but even that no longer works.
The printer goes offline / turns off of its own accord. Have followed all the HP smart messages to get it to work. It says there is a printer (good) but it cannot connect.
Have turned off printer & router and repeated the process outlined in HP not so smart lots of times .
Tell me how to fix it. Please.

It sounds like you're dealing with a mischievous printer that’s playing hide and seek with your network, and it’s causing some real frustration! 😤 Don't worry, we’ll get it back in action in no time.
Here are the troubleshooting steps to help you get your Smart Tank 7005 connected and printing like a champion. 💪
1. Ensure Wi-Fi Is Working Properly
- Check if other devices (phone, laptop, etc.) are connecting to the new router properly.
- Make sure your router’s Wi-Fi is running on a 2.4GHz band, as many printers (including the Smart Tank 7005) have trouble connecting to 5GHz networks.
2. Reset the Printer's Network Settings
- Press and hold the Wireless button on your printer for about 5 seconds. This resets the printer’s network settings.
- Once reset, the printer should show a blinking blue wireless light, indicating it’s ready to connect.
3. Reconnect to the Network via the HP Smart App
- Open the HP Smart App on your phone or computer (make sure you have the latest version).
- Select Set Up a New Printer or Add Printer and follow the prompts. If your printer is listed but says it can’t connect, try selecting the printer manually from the list.
- Ensure you're entering the correct Wi-Fi credentials, especially the network name (SSID) and password.
- If prompted, ensure the Bluetooth on your phone or device is turned on so it can find the printer easily.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Using the HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant, check for any firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, updates help fix connectivity bugs.

5. Assign a Static IP Address
- If the printer keeps disconnecting or going offline, you may want to assign a static IP address. This helps the printer always be on the same "address" on your network.
- You can usually set this up by logging into your router’s settings (typically via a web browser using the router’s IP address, e.g., 192.168.1.1).
- Look for DHCP settings and manually assign a static IP to your printer.
6. Restart Everything: Printer and Router
- Power cycle both your printer and router. Unplug the printer, wait for about 10 seconds, and plug it back in. Do the same with the router. After turning them back on, try reconnecting.
7. Check for Interference or Signal Issues
- If your printer is too far from the router, try moving it closer, especially if you’re on a Wi-Fi network with a weak signal. Wi-Fi extenders can also help boost the signal if your router's coverage is spotty.

8. Re-Install Printer Driver (If needed)
- If you’re printing from a PC or laptop, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver software. Download the latest drivers from HP’s website.
9. Factory Reset (Last Resort)
- As a final step, you can try a factory reset on the printer. This will erase all settings and restore the printer to its default state. Follow the printer’s manual for detailed steps on performing a factory reset.
