I had a desktop icon which brought up an HP app that provided details for the 7520 such as ink levels, diagnostic reports, and a scanning function to preview the scan, change contrast and brightness, and select where to save it. The other day, I clicked on the icon, but nothing happened. When I looked at the properties for the icon, I didn't see an ".exe" file so I deleted the icon thinking I could locate the program and set up the icon again. However, I don't recognize any of the HP programs on my computer that may have it and it may have been deleted. After searching HP's website and tryiing promising downloads, I can't find it there either. Any solutions?

Hello, @Ken_CO
Yes, the HP printer software will enable to use the HP Printer Support assistant tool which will help you use all the features that you described.
So, install the HP printer software as suggested in my previous post. Once done, restart the PC and then double-click the printer icon on your desktop to open the toolbox / printer assistant.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @Ken_CO – Greetings!
Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are experiencing printer issue. I will certainly do my best to help you 🙂
I see you are having issues while accessing the printer software toolbox. It looks like the drivers are somehow removed from your PC and I’d suggest you perform a clean install to fix the same. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
- Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Restart your computer.
- Now, click http://hp.care/2peqSRW to download and install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Now, restart the PC and click the printer icon on your desktop to get the printer support window.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Thanks for your suggestion, but I did a little more investigation and found that the scan process is now entirely different, i.e., scan to computer, memory device, or e-mail. I tried a scan to my computer and the PDF file displayed, but there's no prompt to save it. Also, there's no option to change contrast and brightness (you really can't see the image on the little screen).
Will your link restore what I'm trying to get back to (before this major step backword)? That is, from my computer, click the icon and a dashboard appears: check ink levels, diagnostic reports, scan preview with contrast and brightness adjustments among other features.

I finally found it by reinstalling the printer software downloaded from HP. The app, HP Photosmart 7520 series, runs HP Printer Assistant which includes HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1. A picture of this great utility appears under HP Printers - Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows, HP Toolbox.
