Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to install the full software package for my M277 printer. It gets as far as displaying this message:

 

"Preparing to install. This may take several minutes. Please wait."

 

It also displays a percentage, and when this reaches 77%, it shows this error:

 

"A problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system."

 

Driver software: HP Color LaserJet Pro M277 Printer series Full Software and PCL 6 Driver - 14.0.22047.562

OS: Windows 10 Pro 21H1 19043.2251 (64 bit)

Computer: Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 (AMD)

Thanks @Andr-1611. The specific steps you suggested didn't help, but the general advice to look for conflicting software got me on the right track. Thanks also for the link to the OCR software.

 

The installation software ran properly after I performed a clean boot (I found it unnecessary to follow the task manager related steps described there however).

 

I then bisected the enabling of third-party services, until I identified the problematic service as Realtek's "DashClientService". Now that the printer software is installed though, that service doesn't appear to interfere with it.

The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system, Uninstall the HP software, drivers, and apps used with HP printers .

 

First download only this complete package: "HP Color LaserJet Pro M277 Printer series Full Software and PCL 6 Driver ",

1) File name: HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M277-full-solution-22047.exe (116.5 MB)

 

Then proceed as follows:

Check the system for

  • TuneUp`s
  • Optimization Tools
  • Cleanup Tools

disable them, better uninstall them. Next...

  1. Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
  2. right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
    uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features"
  3. right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
    In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  4. Restart the PC
  5. Close all programs
  6. Change File-Explorer-Settings:View > Options > "Change folder and search options" > Tab "View"
    • enable > Show hidden files, folders and drives
    • uncheck > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
    OK
  7. search for "HP [printer name]" and delete all this folders
  8. Empty the TEMP folders
    A) C:\Users\[Your user account]\AppData\Local\Temp\
    B) C:\Windows\Temp\
  9. system files cannot be deleted!
  10. Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
  11. Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
  12. Restart the PC
  13. Close all programs
  14. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE 1), see above.
  15. Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner with USB.
  16. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  17. Restart the PC again
  18. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Important information:

    Change back the File Explorer settings -
    • enable > Don`t show hidden files, folders or drives
    • click button > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
    OK

Then download this package at the end: Readiris Pro 

 

Print all instructions first, or copy them to another computer!

Read all driver information, click on "Expand all".
