Microsoft Windows 11

My printer will not print all the characters in various fonts.  The characters are random and change when the font is changed.  i am thinking that I need to find an updated driver, however, I can't find one.  I have done all the other diagnostics and cleaning.

I'm trying to use Times New Roman, but without success.

@Texasmemaw547, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue where your printer skips random letters when printing documents in fonts like Times New Roman on Windows 11. Let's walk through a few steps to resolve this:

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset can clear out any temporary glitches:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.

Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause font rendering issues:

  • Go to 123.hp.com and enter your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest full-feature driver for your printer.
  • If you already have the driver installed, uninstall it first:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, find your printer software, and uninstall it.
    • Then reinstall the latest version from the HP website.

Try Printing from a Different Application

Sometimes the issue is specific to the software you're using:

  • Try printing the same document from another program (e.g., WordPad or Notepad).
  • If it prints correctly, the issue may lie with the original application.

Check for Windows Updates

Ensure your system is fully updated:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Use a Different Font or Print as Image (Optional Workaround)

If the issue persists with Times New Roman:

  • Try switching to a different font like Arial or Calibri.
  • Alternatively, in the print dialog, go to Printer Properties > Advanced, and check Print as Image (if available).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Max.  Finally got around to trying your suggestions, step by step.  Here's my results:

1. Turned off the printer, unplugged, etc. as you directed.  Uninstalled HP Smart which is the app I've been using.

2. Going to 123hp.com sent me to a website "PCHelpSoft".  I downloaded their driver updater, but it turned out to be an app that you had to subscribe to.

3. Went to the hp support webpage and found my model (3755 All In One Deskjet) and reinstalled it using the HP Easy Start app which led me back to HP Smart which I reinstalled.

4. Tried printing with Times New Roman, Calibri, and Arial.  All of the dropped random letters.

5. I found that I can get Arial to print out mostly without error if I don't use italics.  Perhaps other fonts as well, but I didn't try.

6.  I have no option to "print as an image" in the advanced settings of the printer properties.

7. I still have the Paint app and could probably use that to save my document as a .pdf, but what a hassle!

I think that I'll be able to work with this now, if I don't use italics.  I appreciate your assistance.  Linda
