HP F4180 printer turns on, the power button flashes but does nothing, by opening the cartridge compartment door they do not move and the scanner does not work either. I have reloaded all the drivers but the printer is not seen by Window 7.
How do I reset the entire printer?

Hi @cirifischio,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer is experiencing issues where the power button flashes, the cartridge carriage does not move, and the scanner does not work, resetting the printer might help resolve the problem.
Here’s how to reset the printer:
Resetting the Printer:
Turn off the Printer:
- Press the power button to turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Unplug any USB cables connected to the printer.
Remove All Cartridges:
- Open the cartridge compartment door and carefully remove all cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges and their contacts for dirt or debris. Clean them gently using a lint-free cloth and distilled water if necessary.
Perform a Power Drain:
- With the printer unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Leave the printer disconnected for at least 2-3 minutes.
Reconnect Power:
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
- Turn the printer back on using the power button.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
- Reinstall the cartridges into their respective slots.
Check for Movement:
- Close the cartridge compartment door and check if the carriage moves to the center or performs an initialization process.
Reinstalling Drivers:
Since you mentioned reloading drivers, make sure you’ve done the following:
Uninstall Existing Drivers:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall any HP software associated with the Deskjet F4180.
Download Updated Drivers: HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver
- Visit the HP Support Website and download the latest drivers for the Deskjet F4180 for Windows 7.
Install Drivers:
- Run the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Connect the printer only when prompted during the installation process.
Additional please check:
- Check Power Supply: Ensure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power strip.
- USB Connection: If the printer is not recognized, try a different USB cable and port on your computer.
- Firmware Update: If the printer becomes functional, consider updating its firmware via the HP website. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Manual Reset Procedure: For some HP models, pressing and holding a combination of buttons (e.g., Power + Cancel) can initiate a full reset. Refer to your user manual or let me know for assistance with button combinations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
