Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear community,

The printer is a HP LaserJet 1022n.

I reinstalled my Windows 10 OS and hence also the network printer. Each time I told the printer to print something, it printed extra copies, which I had to stop by removing the paper.

So I reinstalled the printer and told my PC to print a test page. I have plenty of test pages now. So I removed the printer from devices and restarted my computer. (I din’t know how to remove the printer driver and it was still available as a printer in LibreOffice though, but it did not work.) Each time my computer gets a chance to tell the printer to print test pages, it does so.

How can I convince my computer to stop doing that ? (Solved, since I managed to remove the left-over driver.)

How can I install printer driver software that doesn’t take the initiative of reducing earth’s arboreal area at my expense ?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your printer is printing extra pages,  I am glad to assist you.

This seems to be a driver issue, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have a Dutch version of Windows. I am assuming that 'Programs and Features' is 'Programma's en onderdelen' in Dutch.

How can I do that, select my HP printer ? I have read that suggestion before. I can see a list of programs, but not any printer.

I have tried to follow the instructions.

The test page after installation was printed once.

I asked the computer to print a pdf document. With two pages in the drawer it was printed twice. After resetting the printer and adding two more pages in the drawer, it was printed twice again. After deleting the print queue, resetting the printer again and adding two more pages in the drawer, I asked the computer to print an OpenOffice document. It was printed twice.

What are the next steps ?

Unfortunately, HP Smart is a Microsoft Store appplication. I installed it anyway.

HP Smart could not find the printer. So I restarted my computer. It still cannot find the printer. What are the next steps ?

I navigated to a page where I found a phone number that I am not supposed to call because my printer is out of warranty. I called it anyway. I got a guy on the phone who told me that the printer is beyond its support life (on the back it says it is manufactured in 2006). So he could not help me.

What are the next steps ?

Some more info :

  • When I order to print, Windows says there is an error with printing on that printer.

  • It works normally on two different Macintoshes.

The closest service center is about 70 km away. They asked whether the printer was bought there. Probably not.

I don't know where the printer was bought. HP should know that based on serial number.

I also don't see what use it would be to phone that shop.
