I sought tech support for such a printer 11/22 and was connected with someone purportedly from Tecmax, Inc. in Alberta, Canada, who had a technician in Florida call me.  He spent a long time unsuccessfully trying to solve the problem - the printer would not connect with my network - and supposedly sold me for $299,99 a "lifetime" subscription to the company's "P C Security Package", supposedly installed on my network.  Other than access to my desktop, he did not ask for any sensitive personal information (banks, passwords, and so forth). He then said they'd send me a new printer and cable, which arrived in apparently original packaging.  When I spoke to the company and asked why it had sent these gratis for a 10+ year old printer that doesn't work and is long out of warranty, I didn't get a satisfactory answer.  Two questions.  Is Texmax, Inc. a legitimate company? and whether or not it is, is it safe for me to unpackaged and install and use the printer (OfficeJet Pro 8135e)?

Thanks for any input you can provide.  Just very uncomfortable with the whole situation and can't find out much at all about this company online.
