Hi,

I purchased a Brother MFC-J1300DW late last year, use Kubuntu 20.04.3 and am VERY disappointed with it. Spent days trying to get the printer going via usb, and now scanning won't work.

Have had a Photosmart C310a for a few years. The printer side of that busted, so bought the Brother. So  it is at https://www.brother.com.au/en/products/all-printers/printers/mfc-j1300dw , it can print, copy, scan and fax. Connection via wifi, usb or network. Colour printer. I think they are technically an ink jet, not a laser. But what use is this printer if scanning doesn't work and I had to spend a LOT of time just to get printing to work.

I liked the HP C310a as there was very good drivers for it. I only had to download the drivers, install, plug in the usb cable and it always worked just fine.

Is there a HP printer/scanner that has all the features of the Brother ?  Fax is not necessary though. I don't think I need a networked printer at all, just USB connection. The ink never lasted long though with the C310a, so if there is some sort of laser printer or similar , where ink lasts longer and is not so expensive ??

Thanks for your reply. The issue/problem with the Brother printer was fixed when I removed the brother drivers and simply hooked up via the CAT6 cable to the router.

Hi,

The HP Smart Tank 790 / 7600 provides similar functionality with faxing, ink bottles, duplex printing and WiFi capabilities, including its specs below:
