Help me to reset the hp designjet t770 because the error “load cancelled “

Hello,

Understood. I’ll explain what that “Load cancelled” error actually means on a DesignJet T770, then walk you through the correct reset path, step by step, like I would with a field tech.

What “Load cancelled” means on the HP DesignJet T770

On the T770, “Load cancelled” is not a generic software error. It is raised by the media handling subsystem when one of these conditions occurs:

  • Paper load was interrupted or failed

  • Media sensor did not detect paper correctly

  • Roll/pinch wheels lost alignment

  • Firmware is stuck in a cancelled load state

  • Corrupted job or media state in memory

In most cases, a proper reset clears the stuck media state. If it doesn’t, that points to a hardware sensor or encoder issue.

Step 1: Perform a proper power reset (not just off/on)

This clears volatile memory and media state.

  1. Power the printer ON

  2. Press the Power button to shut it down

  3. When the screen is off, unplug:

    • Power cable

    • Network cable (important)

  4. Wait at least 60 seconds

  5. Plug power only back in

  6. Power the printer on

➡️ Try loading paper again
If “Load cancelled” returns, continue.

Step 2: Clear media path manually (very important)

This model is sensitive to paper fragments and sensor blockage.

  1. Open the top cover

  2. Open the rear path (if roll is installed)

  3. Remove:

    • Roll paper

    • Any cut sheets

  4. Check carefully:

    • Paper dust

    • Small torn paper near the platen and entry sensor

  5. Close all covers firmly

Now try loading paper again.

Step 3: Reset the printer from the service menu (key step)

This clears the internal media/load state.

Access the Service Menu

  1. Power the printer OFF

  2. Press and hold LEFT ARROW + CANCEL

  3. While holding them, press Power

  4. Keep holding until the display turns on

  5. Release buttons

You should now be in Service Menu.

Perform the reset

Navigate to:

Service Menu → Resets → Partial Reset

Confirm the reset.

⚠️ What this does:

  • Clears media state

  • Clears cancelled jobs

  • Resets sensors logic

  • Keeps firmware and calibration

After reset:

  • Printer will reboot

  • Reconfigure paper type and size

  • Try loading media again

Step 4: Firmware check (only if issue persists)

If the printer still immediately shows “Load cancelled”, then:

  • Firmware may be corrupted OR

  • A media sensor / encoder strip issue exists

At this point:

  • Check firmware version

  • Update firmware if not current

⚠️ If firmware update fails or error appears before loading starts → hardware fault.

When this becomes a hardware issue (be honest here)

If after:

  • Power reset

  • Manual media path check

  • Partial reset

…the error persists, the most common failures on T770 are:

  • Media sensor failure

  • Carriage encoder contamination

  • Roll feed motor issue

These require service repair. There is no software fix beyond this point.
