HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One

I am looking to verify what versions of TLS are currently available to my printer so that when we cut off 1.0 and 1.1 communicating can still occur.

Hi @ctorres2121,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand the importance of ensuring that your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One remains secure and functional, especially as older versions of TLS are phased out. Let’s work together to find a solution.

  • Are you looking to verify the TLS versions for communication over the printer's network (e.g., for web access or network scanning) or for specific connections like HP Smart or a web server?
  • Have you already accessed the printer's embedded web server (EWS) to check the network settings or security protocols?
  • Are you planning to update the printer's firmware or make changes to your network configuration to enforce the use of TLS 1.2 or higher?

Let's try these steps.

Access the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • To verify and configure security protocols, access the EWS by typing the printer’s IP address into a web browser. You can find the IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel. Once in the EWS, navigate to the Network or Security tab to check for available security protocols like TLS.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit HP’s Support page for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 and check if there are any firmware updates available. Updating the firmware could include support for newer versions of TLS (like 1.2 or 1.3), ensuring compatibility with modern security standards.

Review the Printer’s Security Settings:

  • In the EWS, look for options related to encryption or secure communications. Depending on the version of the firmware, you might be able to manually disable outdated protocols (such as TLS 1.0 and 1.1) and enable TLS 1.2 or higher.

Verify TLS Versions Using Network Tools:

  • If the printer doesn’t provide a direct way to view the TLS versions, you can use network diagnostic tools to monitor the TLS handshake between your printer and a server. Tools like Wireshark can help you inspect the security protocols in use.

If you’re unable to find the information or settings through the EWS or firmware, contacting HP Phone Support for guidance on enabling TLS 1.2 or higher is recommended.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
