This a new printer. I have completed the set up and aligned the cartridges and can print a Wi-Fi config page. But the printer will not print a test page or any document

Hi @Robert-W,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m here to help, and I know how confusing this feels. You’ve done everything right:

  • Completed setup
  • Aligned the cartridges
  • Printed the Wi‑Fi Configuration Page

…and the printer sounds alive, the paper feeds for the config page, the ink is working, yet it refuses to print a test page or any document.

Good news:
This symptom tells me your printer hardware is perfectly healthy. The issue is between your computer and the printer driver, not the printer itself.

Let’s get this fixed step by step.

STEP 1: Your printer is printing internal pages (that means hardware is GOOD)

Because the Wi‑Fi config page prints normally, this confirms:

✔ Ink is flowing
✔ Cartridges are aligned
✔ Printhead works
✔ Motor + paper feed are fine
✔ No hardware issue at all

STEP 2: Remove the printer from your computer completely

On your computer:

Windows

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
  2. Click your HP printer
  3. Select Remove Device

Mac

  1. Apple Menu → System Settings → Printers & Scanners
  2. Select your HP printer
  3. Click – (minus) to remove

This clears the “stuck” connection that is preventing printing.

STEP 3: Clear the stuck print queue

Even one frozen job can block all printing silently.

Windows

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type:
  3. control printers
  4. Right-click your HP printer → Open Print Queue
  5. Cancel All

Mac

  1. Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners
  2. Click Open Print Queue
  3. Clear all jobs

Try printing again. If it still doesn’t print, continue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
