Hello Community,

I need help on setting my Printer's scan to email right. I encountered the error as stated on the subject after I had setup the printer using the SMTP AUTH client submission (i.e., office 365 -  OAuth with SMTP AUTH), and it still can't send email.

I have tried many possible fix such as exclude the dedicated printer email from MFA, test my connectivity to M365 from my network using Telnet client tool, ensure I can send and receive email on the dedicated printer email, etc. However, nothing changed.

What do you advice I do?

Welcome to the HP Community --

When I see an SMTP error that appears to be linked to the user credentials, I think of the email login security.

The following might be relevant - worth a look...

Scan to Email – Two-Step Verification and Application Password

Email Account Security

"Scan to Email", “Scan to Network”, "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email Account provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".

For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.

Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email / account password in "third party" apps and software.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Assign / set that new App Password in your Scan to Email profile as the password.
