HP Envy 6110e All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

After moving from Instant Ink in an older HP printer to All-In, I needed to exchange the first HP Envy 6110e for a second one because of an issue with that first unit not going to sleep. I just set up the replacement printer and discovered a "needs attention" icon on the app's home page. The app now asks for a password to be set, unlike past versions of HP Smart where a password was not a requirement.

After repeated attempts to enter and confirm a strong pw, and waiting for the system to update my account with that password, the app eventually times out the request. This would appear to be a bug in the software, unless I am missing something. There is no option to disable entering a password, and the "needs attention" warning continues to show up.

Next, when I tapped on the Copy function @ the HP Smart home page, it acts exactly like the Camera Scan funtion, i.e. it asks me to take a picture of the document I want to copy. I simply want to use the app to make a copy of a document placed on the printer glass, not capture it via my iPhone camera.

The Copy function on the printer display works correctly and allows me to make a one-to-one copy of the document on the glass. The HP Smart app's Copy function should work identically, i.e. position the document on the printer and launch the function from the app.

This may be another software bug, since past versions of the app worked properly. Please advise on both issues.

Thanks!

I am guessing that the MAC version may be slightly different in layout. My windows version does not even show the copy function as a tile option.

I am also puzzled as why you would want to launch the copy function from an app when you have to go to the machine anyway and it is probably faster to press copy on the front of the machine.

You are quite correct on just using the Copy function @ the printer. Just wondered if the difference was intentional. The password requirement (and its failure to update-after repeated tries) is puzzling. Regarding MAC vs. Windows I was referring to HP Smart on an iPhone 15 running iOS 18.1.1.

Thanks for the response!

As it turns out, the app has updated and now shows correctly. In the printer window at the top of the app, it shows the printer name, that I am using HP cartridges and that the printer is being "security monitored". Apparently the automatic security feature has been enabled, and there is no longer any need to enter a password (that wasn't working anyway). Thanks for your help, Repairatrooper.
