I have two of these printers...HP OfficeJet Pro 9020.
Nevermind the fact that the "Smart" app is so stupid that no user can tell the two printers apart, because the "Smart" app (which si stupid) does not allow ANY NAMING and is so stupid that it even IGNORES the windows printer names BY DESIGN!!! See my post about this months ago, with many users agreeing. And with HP doing nothing, of course.
Now I try to install connections to these network printers on my kids' two brand new Lenovo C740-14IML machines. The "Smart" app installs them in it's own fantasy world of "HP devices" and fails to install any printers in the Windows 10 operating system, so ZERO windows app can print.
This HP Smart app is the WORST printer app I have ever seen. Shocking time waster. Leaves me asking why HP still exists.
Particularly frustrating because I installed the two printers in Windows 10 for at least six other machines prior to this episode. Amazing how newer products / OS updates can render HP products useless.
If anyone wants to help, please do. But nothing can redeem HP.
EDIT: HP sucks so badly that they don't even expose a driver that a user can manually install in Windows 10. So when you set up the printer in Windows 10 and tell Windows 10 the IP address, and when Windows 10 queries the printer, all you get is the manufacturers "Generic" and "Microsoft" and the "Have Disk" button. And here we are in the year 2021, and HP give you ZERO ABILITY to utilize Windows 10 built-in "Have Disk" workflow to install these printers. What a pile of crap this printer is. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME.

Hi @CaymanIslands ,
Thanks for using the HP Support Community.
Try the HP FULL software - which allows renaming of printer and also offers a host of other rich features.
Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-9020-all-in-one-printer-...
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
These resources will be good references on the Install as well as usage:

This resource shows how to scan and save using the iHQC - end result is very small PDF file.

Hope that helps.
