I have been struggling to get my printer up and running correctly for any period of time.  I'm not sure if this happened after an HP update or not.   Jobs keep getting stuck in the print spooler and I have to stop, clear, and restart the print spooler.  So, sometimes it will fix the problem, but just for a short while and it starts happening all over again.  I have tried all sorts of fixes, like unloading the printer and all HP software, etc., but the problem reemerges.  This is so frustrating.

So, I have been using HP Smart to print to bypass the spooler, but even this has glitches.  Why can I get the full HP driver package into my operating system?  It currently shows the driver as Microsoft IPP Class Driver and doesn't even show my printer HP 9120 series (actually HP9125e) under Devices and printers.

Hi @Peggy_Glaub,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 9125e is showing up as a Microsoft IPP Class Driver, print jobs keep getting stuck in the spooler, and you’re unable to install the full HP driver package properly. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Uninstall Existing Printer Drivers Completely

Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners, remove the HP 9125e if listed.

Open Device Manager → Print queues/Printers, and uninstall any remaining HP entries.

Use Programs & Features to remove any HP software. This ensures no conflicting drivers remain.

Clear the Print Spooler

Open Services (Windows + R → services.msc), locate Print Spooler, stop the service.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.

Restart the Print Spooler service.

Download the Full Feature HP Driver Package

Go to HP Software & Drivers → search for HP 9125e → select your Windows version.

Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers (not just the basic driver).

This package includes the HP Universal Print Driver and software needed to replace the Microsoft IPP driver.

Install the Full Feature Driver as Administrator

Right-click the installer → Run as Administrator.

Follow the prompts to connect the printer via USB or network (recommended: temporarily use USB if network detection fails).

Make sure to select HP 9125e when the installer prompts for the model, not “Microsoft IPP” or “HP Universal.”

Verify in Devices and Printers

After installation, the printer should show up as HP 9125e with the full driver.

Check Printing Preferences and Printer Properties to confirm full functionality.

I hope this helps.

Well, I did get to the point where I could begin to download the "Full Feature HP Driver Package, but when I navigated to the HP download page for my printer and operating system, my choice was shown as "HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only".  Is this what I am supposed to download and install?  It says that it is recommended that I download the HP Smart App first?  If this is not the correct download, can you please provide a link to the correct download I need?  Thanks.

Hi @Peggy_Glaub,

I understand you're trying to install the full HP driver for your HP 9125e, but the download page only shows the “HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only,” and you’re unsure if this is the correct installer. Let’s go through a few points to clear this up and help you move forward.

Yes — EasyStart is the correct full-driver installer for the 9120 series
– For this printer family, HP doesn’t provide a separate “Full Feature Software” package like older models.
– EasyStart is the official installer that automatically installs the full HP driver, replaces the IPP Class Driver, and configures the printer for USB or network.

You do not need to install HP Smart first
– EasyStart works completely offline and will detect the printer directly.
– HP Smart is optional and used only for cloud features, not driver installation.

After downloading EasyStart, run it as Administrator
– Right-click the file → Run as Administrator.
– Choose “Set Up a New Printer,” then select USB connection (temporarily) if the network option doesn’t show the printer.
– This forces Windows to register the proper HP driver and removes the Microsoft IPP Class Driver.

Verify the correct driver was installed
– Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
– You should now see: HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 series
– Right-click → Printer Properties → About tab → the driver name should start with “HP” instead of “Microsoft IPP Class Driver.”

After the full driver appears, you can switch back to Wi-Fi
– Disconnect USB → restart printer and PC.
– The printer should remain on the HP driver even in wireless mode.

If the IPP driver reappears, disable automatic IPP driver installation
– Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners.
– Turn off “Let Windows manage my default printer.”
– Remove the IPP version if it adds itself again.

This EasyStart package is the right download for fully replacing the Microsoft IPP Class Driver with HP’s full driver set for the 9120/9125e series.

I hope this helps.

Well, I tried to utilize every specific instruction you provided and it did not help.  When I finally was able to get the Easy Start exe file to download, it did nothing but spin in a circle and never would start to download. I watched it do this for quite some time (20+ minutes) and checked to see if it was downloading and it was not. I tried turning off the VPN, but that didn't seem to matter.  So, I deleted the (Easy Start) downloaded file and started over.  The same thing happened again.

The third time, I simply went ahead, caved in, and downloaded the HP Smart app to assist and was able to get the Easy Start software downloaded and set up the printer again.  However , the MS IPP driver was back again.  Nothing seems to be working here.  I'm not an expert at this, but I do follow instructions explicitly when given to me.  This shouldn't be rocket science and I am beginning to believe that none of this should be a problem if it has been working for almost 2 years without a glitch.  Did MS send through an update that caused this problem? I simply do not understand.

So, I will continue to struggle and if necessary, I can transfer the files I need to print to my iPhone and print them without a problem from there.  And perhaps return this printer?  I'm not sure the printer is even the problem??!!

In the meantime, I ordered a new WiFi system and perhaps that might be part of the problem, but if my current WiFi system "sees" the WiFi Router and prints from everything else in the house without any problem, something can't be right.  I give up.
