Hi @yetanother,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Ink Tank 315 printer is having trouble connecting to your computer or recognizing the connection.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Cable Connection:

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the MacBook Pro. Try unplugging and replugging the cable or using a different USB port.

2. Restart Devices:

  • Turn off both the printer and your MacBook Pro. Wait for a few seconds, then turn them back on.

3. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for the HP Ink Tank 315. Install them on your MacBook Pro. Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can cause connection issues.

4. Reinstall the Printer:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your MacBook Pro. Remove the HP Ink Tank 315 if it’s listed. Then, click the + button to add the printer again.

5. Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your model.

6. Check for Error Messages:

  • If there’s a specific error message on your computer or printer, try to search for that exact error message in HP’s support resources or provide it here for more detailed assistance.

7. Test with Another Computer:

  • If possible, connect the printer to another computer to see if it works there. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or the original computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
