The screen is frozen on my HP envy photo 7830. I have tryed unplugging several times, but nothing happens. I find the printer in the app, but it is not connected. How can I fix this? It worked a few days ago.

Hi @LBH76

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for the context. Since the screen on your HP Envy Photo 7830 is frozen and power cycling doesn't help, you're likely dealing with a firmware or hardware lockup — especially if the printer is unresponsive and no longer connects to the HP app.

Here's how to troubleshoot and recover it:

1. Hard Reset (Try Again with Extra Step)

You've already tried unplugging, but do this sequence exactly:

Turn off the printer (if possible).

Unplug the power cable from the printer AND the wall.

Wait 2–3 minutes.

While unplugged, press and hold the power button on the printer for 30 seconds (this discharges static).

Plug the power back in directly to a wall outlet (not a power strip).

Try turning it on again.

Check if the screen still freezes or shows any change.

2. Check for Jammed Button or Touch Panel

Sometimes a stuck button (like "OK" or "Back") or a failed touchscreen digitizer can cause the lockup.

Gently press around the edges of the screen to ensure it's not stuck.

If there’s a physical “Cancel” or “Home” button, press it several times to rule out mechanical jamming.

3. USB Firmware Recovery (Advanced)

If the screen stays frozen, you might be able to force a firmware reload via USB.

Here's how:

Go to the HP Firmware Recovery Tool page on a Windows PC.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Download the HP Printer Firmware Updater for your model.

Connect the printer via USB to your PC.

Run the tool and follow on-screen instructions.

Note: This only works if the printer is partially responsive via USB — screen can be frozen but internal board must still boot. If the tool can’t detect it, the internal board may have failed.

4. If Nothing Works – It’s Likely Hardware Failure

If the screen remains stuck and the printer won't respond to USB or power cycling, it could be:

Failed touchscreen controller

Corrupted main board/firmware

Dead logic board

Thank you for your reply. I have now tried it all, but there are no changes. I can not get in touch with the printer. Each time I plug it in again, the blue line runs almost and then stops. Is my printer beyond repair or is it more I can do? I have connected the USB B port on the back of the printer to my USB A port on my computer, but I can not connect.
