Hi @lindi77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This message means your HP printer is still linked to a previous HP Instant Ink account, and HP’s system prevents enrolling it in a new account until the old one is removed. Here’s what you can do:

Why This Happens

  • HP Instant Ink ties the printer’s serial number to the original account for billing and service.
  • Even if you factory reset the printer, the enrollment remains active on HP’s servers.

Steps to Fix It

  1. Contact the Previous Account Holder
  2. HP Support Assistance
    • If you cannot reach the previous owner, HP can help disassociate the printer from the old account.
    • You’ll need:
      • Printer serial number
      • Proof of purchase
    • Contact HP here

  3. Factory Reset (Optional)
    • On the printer:
      • Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults
    • This clears local settings but does not remove Instant Ink enrollment from HP’s servers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
