I have tried setting up my HP Deskjet 2810e all-in-one printer but the colour setup ink cartridge that was sent with the printer is saying it's empty. I cant finish setting it up as it wont print the setup page. I cannot get a new one through instant ink as it says the printer hasn't been set up.....

Is there anyway to get a replacement as I do not want to have to pay for a new one as the one with the printer is faulty?

Hi @SambelinaSX

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this with your new printer, and I appreciate the effort you’ve already made to set it up. When a setup cartridge shows as empty, it can sometimes be due to how it is seated or how the printer is reading it.

Let’s carefully check a few things together so the printer can sense the cartridge correctly:

  1. Power on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the color cartridge and gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. This helps clear any residue that may interfere with detection.
  3. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place. Make sure it is seated evenly and not tilted.
  4. Close the access door and wait for the printer to recognize the cartridge.
  5. If the printer still shows the cartridge as empty, try resetting the printer by unplugging the power cord while it is on, waiting 60 seconds, and then reconnecting.
  6. Attempt to print the setup page again.

If the cartridge continues to show empty after these steps, the next step would be to arrange a replacement since the setup cannot be completed without a functioning cartridge. You can find guidance on cartridge installation and troubleshooting here:
Install and Replace Ink Cartridges – HP DeskJet 2800e Series

This guide includes illustrations and instructions that may help ensure the cartridge is seated properly.

You’ve already done well by noticing the issue early. Once the cartridge is recognized, the printer should glide smoothly through the setup page and allow you to complete the installation.
