Trouble Downloading HP DeskJet 6988 and HP LaserJet P1606dn Printer Drivers

I have a new Microsoft Surface laptop and have bought the appropriate USB-C cable to connect with  my printers but for the HP DeskJet 6988 the HP Support site says use the driver supplied by Windows Operating System but can't find or not there.  Then for the HP LaserJet P1606dn it appears as a recognized printer but then software for example Microsoft Word does not have it listed as an option.  HELP!

I have a new Microsoft Surface Pro X.  The Surface uses USB-C connections and I bought appropriate HP to USB c connecting cord.  Microsoft is not recognizing either printer.  HP support for the HP LaserJet P1606dn driver on the website is not working and for the HP DeskJet 6988 there is no diver available on the HP website just the instruction to use the driver that came with operating system.  So, neither is working.

Is there a way I can get these two drivers from HP and help installing them?

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

• In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
• Select your HP printer.
• Select Uninstall.
• In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
• In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
• Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
• Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
• Click on Drivers tab.
• Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
• Select OK.
• Remove all instances of the same.
• Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
• Close Devices and Printers. 
• Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver for both printers

There is no specific driver available for HP DeskJet 6988, however you can install the printer using Windows builtin driver.

Hi,

None of this works.  For the HP LaserJet p1606dn the download extracts and then disappears and no driver setup inititalizes.  The HP DeskJet 6988 is recognized and is there in the list of recognized printers but underneath it says 'Driver is Unavailable'.  Help!

This might require remote access of the computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
2. Select the country.
3. Enter the serial of your device.
4. Select the country from the drop-down.
5. Click on "Show Options".
6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Hi I am grateful for all the help so far.  This did not work as well

It worked well until I got to step 4.  No select country re-appeared.  Step 5. No show Options appeared.   Step 6, No web-form appeared to fill out!
