New printer. I finally got it connected to my network. Using HP Smart Hub, now has a red mark next to Cartridge or Account use. I purchased this yesterday. The Walmart associate could not tell me if cartridges came with it or not. I purchased a black cartridge, just in case. The setup instructions said to use the cartridges that came with the printer. I tried that, message said they were empty and needed to be changed. I removed the color and replaced that black ink cartridge. What do i do now?

Hi @GaryM4895,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've encountered an issue with setting up a new printer. Here’s a step-by-step approach to resolve it:
Verify Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that both the black and color cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Make sure they are fully seated and click into place.
Check Cartridge Protective Tape:
- Sometimes, the protective tape on new cartridges might not be fully removed. Double-check that the plastic tape has been removed from the cartridges.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth. Be careful not to touch the nozzles.
Run Printer Diagnostics:
- Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to run any available diagnostics or cleaning cycles. This can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues.
Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or HP’s website.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Remove and reinstall both cartridges, making sure they are properly seated.
Check Ink Levels:
- If your printer has a display or if you can use the HP Smart app, check the ink levels to confirm that the cartridges have sufficient ink.
