HP DeskJet 4252e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

New HP 4252 will not print except for a saved document. It printed the test page when I set up the printer but now will only print something if I save it to my computer. I've tried troubleshooting and doing the diagnostics to troubleshoot and it requires the admin password which apparently I don't have one. Can someone please tell me how to proceed? Thank you.

HI @maryal521,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4252 printer is only printing saved documents and requires an admin password for troubleshooting, there are a few steps you can take to try to resolve this issue without the admin password.

Steps to Bypass Admin Password for Printer Troubleshooting

Use Default Admin Credentials

  • Some HP printers use a default admin password. Try using "admin" or leaving the password field blank.

Reset Admin Password

  • If you can't log in with the default credentials, you may need to reset the printer to its factory settings. This will erase all custom settings, including the admin password.

Factory Reset the Printer

  • To reset your HP Envy 4252 printer to its factory defaults:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Press and hold the Resume button (triangle inside a circle) and the Power button together.
    3. Release the Resume button while holding the Power button.
    4. Press the Resume button three times, then release both buttons.
    5. The printer will reset and restart.

Reinstall Printer Software

  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer software on your computer. This can sometimes resolve issues with the printer not printing certain documents.
    1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select your printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
    3. Re-add the printer by clicking the plus (+) button and following the prompts.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website.
  • Follow the instructions on the website to update the firmware.

Check Document Settings

  • Ensure that the document you are trying to print is properly formatted and not corrupted.
  • Try printing a simple text document created in a different application.

HP Smart App

  • Use the HP Smart app to manage your printer and check for updates.
    1. Download and install the HP Smart app from the App Store or Google Play.
    2. Open the app and add your printer.
    3. Check for any updates or troubleshooting tips within the app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
