I'm trying to enable AirPrint on my venerable HP LaserJet CP1525nw, and running up against roadblocks.
I see no menu option in my HP Printer Utility or the Web Utility to enable AirPrint, so I suspect that I need to do a firmware upgrade, as suggested by this forum thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Can-I-use-Apple-AirPrint-on-an-HP-LaserJet-CP1525nw-...
Currently, the Firmware Date is 20100430, I'm unable to find the actual FirmWare number.
Now, I'm running the latest OSX Catalina. The firmware upgrade link in the thread above does not work on Catalina because it's 32-bit app and Steve Jobs has reached back from the grave and determined it is unworthy.
SO.. is there a manual firmware download file? I see there may be an upload process from the web interface on the Printer.
Alternatively, is there an updated firmware installer that is 64-bit from HP?
This has had me messing around for more than a week.

Your best option is to likely find a Windows PC you can use to update the firmware to 20140616, which states it includes fixes to improve Airprint, that update is over 6 years old so you may still have issues with operation of airprint and as this product is end of life, you are unlikely to see further development happen.
Once upon a time, the release date was considered the revision so many older products only have the date code. Your current firmware does not show airprint because it was developed before Airprint was released and as an unproven technology, not all companies would jump on board and develop for it.

H,
You may try using below firmware tool which is intended for earlier OS versions than Catalina (it is officially compatible with 10.9 or earlier versions):
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34888/lj-86474-15/CP1520_Series_FW_Update-20140616.dmg
If it doesn’t run correctly, I suggest using a Windows PC, as the tool is available for any Windows version up to 10.
