Trying to install latest drivers in my HP ENVY 4500 printer using iOS 17 on iPad

Want to install new latest driver for HP ENVY 4500 printer using iPad iOS 17.  HP Smart App isn’t cooperating in helping me.  I complete steps 1 and 2, but when I get to step 3 “installation”, NO DICE!! ???????

The printer is older, though still listed as eligible to use HP Smart or Airprint in a networked environment.

The printer does not support 5GHz -- this is fine as long as your network continues to support 2.4GHz.

"Steps 1 and 2" might refer to opening the Apple App store, finding, and then (next) installing the application.

Regardless, yes -- there is more than a single step to get and then install the HP Smart application on a supported iPad.

Tips and Details

Check / Update  >> Every device (computer(s) and / or mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

Both iPad and Printer must be on the same network during the installation of the HP Smart application.

Do make sure both iPad Location Services and Bluetooth are switched on.

What? 

The Printer does not support Bluetooth -  HP Smart uses these services to establish the initial connection with the printer.

And

No VPN at least during installation (and possibly to use the app) -- 

If you don't know what that means, you are using using VPN.

These are other details are explained in the Printer Setup document ( link is provided later in this message ).

What else?

As a means to check whether the HP Smart app has any chance of installing, that is, to check whether the network is available, perhaps first try using AirPrint to add the Printer (on the same network as the printer).

What?

AirPrint uses some of the same underlying structures (connection and coding).

True -- There is no need to install the AirPrint app because AirPrint is part of iOS - Just add the printer.

Setting up AirPrint, is of course, optional -- it does at least provide basic printing on the iPad with your printer.
