Hi @MaureenO65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When setting up your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e and encountering an "incorrect pin" message, here are steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Verify the PIN

Ensure that you are entering the correct PIN. The PIN is usually provided on a sticker on the printer or in the printer's manual.

2. Check for Typographical Errors

Double-check the PIN for any typographical errors. Common mistakes include confusing letters and numbers such as 'O' and '0' or 'I' and '1'.

3. Reset the Printer

Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve the issue.

  1. Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait: Wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Power On the Printer: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Restart the Setup Process

Restart the setup process to ensure that no steps were missed or performed incorrectly.

5. Update Printer Firmware

Ensure that your printer firmware is up-to-date. An outdated firmware might cause setup issues.

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Go to the HP Support website.
    • Enter your printer model and look for firmware updates.
    • Follow the instructions to download and install the latest firmware.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @MaureenO65,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Connect Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If you're setting up a wireless connection, you can use the WPS method instead of manually entering the PIN.

  1. Press the WPS Button on Your Router: Locate and press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Press the WPS Button on Your Printer: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your printer. The printer should automatically connect to your Wi-Fi network.

7. Use HP Smart App

The HP Smart app can sometimes simplify the setup process.

Download and Install HP Smart App:

  • Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and download the HP Smart app.
  • Alternatively, you can download it from the HP website.

Follow Setup Instructions: Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer.

8. Factory Reset the Printer

If all else fails, performing a factory reset on the printer can sometimes resolve the issue.

  1. Factory Reset Instructions:
    • Navigate to the printer’s control panel.
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance or Setup > Restore or Reset.
    • Select Restore Factory Defaults or a similar option.
    • Confirm the reset and follow any additional on-screen instructions.

You may also refer to this document for printer setup.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the "incorrect pin" issue during the setup of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be best to contact HP Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
