I've been using Ubuntu for years and recently moved back to Windows 10.
I'm trying to setup Scan to Network Folder so I can scan directly from the printer to my windows 10 laptop.
I had this working fine under Ubuntu (linux) but just can't get it to work in Windows 10.
The HP Printer Software doesn't seem to give the options that I've found in the HP setup videos. Whenever I type in the windows search bar HP it only brings up the SETUP.EXE programme and doesn't give me the software to setup the network scan option.
I've tried using the EWS option but I'm having trouble doing it manually - It worked perfectly well in ubuntu but in Windows 10 I just can't seem to share the folder on my C: drive successfully with the printer.
Any ideas?

I recommend you enable SMB on your computer. Follow the below steps to Enable SMB.
Programs and features > turn on windows feature > SMB 1.0 CIFS Server > reboot PC.
Let me know if this helps.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
Once this is done, follow the steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03233046 (though it says Laserjet but the same applies to your Printer too)
Let me know if this helps.

Hi, Thank you for your reply
Unfortunately everyone of those steps failed.
Firstly, I uninstalled the Printer and drivers as instructed.
Followed all 15 steps.
Then when I tried to reinstall the printer I got to the part where the setup looked for the printer on the network - it found the printer - I selected it and then it wouldn't go any further. The screen stayed on INSTALLING NETWORK PRINTER with a progress bar scrolling across for ages and then failed.
So now I can't even install the printer driver.
One other note is that although I download the FULL driver software from your website - when it starts the install process it states that it is installing the BASIC version. Why is this?
But now my problem is that I can't even print any more because your instructions have totally destroyed my laptop!
Can you now suggest how I actually install the printer software before we try to get onto the setting up of the Scan to Network Folder?

So you seriously think I haven't tried that?
I must have restarted the laptop about 10 times!
Please give me better advice! Please!
Can you comment on why the drivers always state basic when I downloaded full?
Is this a problem with your software? Or with Windows 10?

It's not an issue. That's how the software is designed. You can use the built-in drivers to install and print: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

Hi,
I have now added the printer successfully using the windows 10 own drivers. So I can now print again.
So we are back to my original question...... How do I setup scan to a network folder?
I've tried to share a folder on the laptop, then go into the web interface for the printer and setup a scan to network folder (just as I did for my previous computer running Ubuntu) and it won't connect to the laptop when I test the settings.
Can you give me full step by step instructions on how to successful share a folder and setup scan to network folder for Windows 10 and my printer please.
Many thanks
