Hi when I try to scan the HP smart tries to use an old printer that I no longer have. I need to switch my default printer to my new one that is on my network.

If the unwanted printer is still showing up in HP Smart,

If you are running the application in Windows,

Try / Consider

 

  • Reset the application (Windows)
  • Remove the unwanted printer from your HP Account Dashboard
  • Uninstall the app from your device > Restart the device > "Get" and install a new copy of the application from the Store that manages your device

 

 

Details / Example

 

Open Settings > Apps > Apps & Features

Scroll down, find HP Smart

Windows 10 > Right-Click on the app > Advanced options

Windows 11 > Click on 3-vertical dots > Advanced options

Section Reset > Select Reset

“If this app still isn’t working right, reset it.  The app’s data will be deleted.”

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart and complete the setup.

Remove Unwanted Device from HP Account Dashboard

 

If you no longer have a particular device (computer / printer), that device can be removed from your HP Account Dashboard.

 

Open the main HP Account website,

 HP Account - Login / Dashboard

Click and sign into your HP Account

Tab My HP Account > My HP Dashboard

Tab / Section My Devices

Device(s) listed in rows

Click the X in Blue Circle in the last column of the device information

When the website support page opens, Select (as available) a Category > Topic > Subtopic
