Been trying to add a printer to an account to do some test prints. I am about to chuck this awful thing into the dumpster. It's nearly brand new because of how little it has been used.
Model: OfficeJet Pro 9015e
Issue: Keeps failing to register the printer to my account and the printer keeps complaining of an issue with the HP account.
Mitigation steps:
1) Factory reset of the printer... multiple times.
2) Firmware update. This wasn't working for a while because of the account requirement, but I was able to get it updated to a March 17, 2025 firmware.
3) Reinstalled HP Smart (dumb) software and repaired it multiple times.
4) Used a second burner HP account in case the original account was the issue.
5) Attempted to finish setup on the printer itself.
6) Checked HP account notifications. Nothing here since I can't complete the process of adding the printer.
7) There are no VPNs or special firewalls in the network. Both the PC and the printer are wired to the same network. The HP software can detect the printer and make settings changes to it, but not complete the setup.
I'm at a loss of what to do. Everything has been reset multiple times. Is this hunk of plastic and metal only useful as dumpster fill?

Hi @tiredofbadprint,m
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Internet Connection Verification:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the internet. Check the network settings to confirm that it's connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
HP Smart App:
- Ensure you are using the HP Smart app for registration and setup, as it facilitates easier connectivity between the device and the HP account.
- Download the latest version of the HP Smart app from your app store if you haven't.
Account Verification:
- Make sure that the HP account credentials you are using are correct and active.
- If necessary, log in to your HP account from a web browser to confirm your details are correct and the account is active.
Network Settings:
- Disable any VPNs or proxies on your network as they may interfere with the registration process.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, router, and the device you're using to confirm proper boot-up and network connectivity.
- Try registering again once all devices are restarted.
Printer Reset:
- Perform another factory reset and try setting up the printer anew, making sure to connect it to the same network your device is using.
Firmware Updates:
- Ensure firmware updates are successfully installed. Verify this within the printer's menu or through the HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.

Hi @tiredofbadprint,
Thank you for the response.
Just for testing, try connecting the printer via mobile hotspot during the HP+ activation step. This can help bypass hidden firewall/DNS filtering issues on your current router.
I hope this helps.
