Hi @eleana-us,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble printing from macOS Ventura to your HP Smart Tank 520, and the printer isn’t printing even though it’s added, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
1. Verify Printer Setup
Check Printer Connections:
- Ensure that your HP Smart Tank 520 is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network or to your Mac via USB. For Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your Mac.
Check for Paper:
- Ensure that there is paper loaded in the printer’s input tray. Sometimes the issue can be as simple as an empty or improperly loaded paper tray.
Check Printer Status:
- Ensure that the printer is turned on and there are no error messages or warning lights on the printer’s display.
2. Update Printer Drivers
Download and Install Latest Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Smart Tank 520 compatible with macOS Ventura.
- Install the drivers and restart your Mac if necessary.
Use HP Smart App:
- Install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. The app can help you set up the printer and ensure all necessary drivers are installed.
3. Add Printer to macOS
Open System Preferences:
- Go to “System Preferences” > “Printers & Scanners.”
Add Printer:
- Click the “+” button to add a new printer. Select your HP Smart Tank 520 from the list. If it doesn’t appear, make sure it’s properly connected to your network or computer.
Set Default Printer:
- Once added, make sure it is set as the default printer by selecting it and clicking “Default.”
4. Check Print Queue
Open Print Queue:
- Go to “System Preferences” > “Printers & Scanners,” select your HP Smart Tank 520, and click “Open Print Queue.”
Check for Stuck Jobs:
- Look for any pending or stuck print jobs and cancel them if necessary. Sometimes clearing the queue can resolve printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Same here. Just bought the smart tank 520. I've spent days trying to get my Mac to recognize the printer and print. And no help from HP. The worst company and website ever. I will never buy another HP product.

I was able to find a workaround, when you add a Printer, in the Software dropdown at the bottom, search and find "HP Deskjet 3510 series" that will atleast enable the printing function.
I'm sure there might be other drivers that may enable the scanning option as well but I did not look for them once the printer started working and I was unblocked.
Hope it helps.

did you install the driver here? https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/hp-smart-tank-520-all-in-one-series/2100992724
if you need the printer password, it's admin
