When connecting the printer to computers (several), an error appears that the USB device is not recognized. I rebooted the computer, updated the drivers, tried several working methods but could not solve the problem. I assume that the problem is in the printer itself, but I don’t know what exactly and how to solve it. Help please
(Code 43)
The USB device descriptor request failed.

Hi @IscoJJ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The Code 43 error typically indicates that the USB device has malfunctioned, which could be due to various reasons. Since you’ve already tried rebooting and updating drivers, here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4103dw.
Try a Different USB Port/Cable: Sometimes, the issue might be with the specific USB port or cable. Try using a different USB cable or port on your computer.
Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP support website and follow the instructions for updating the firmware.
Perform a Printer Reset: Sometimes, resetting the printer to factory settings can help resolve connectivity issues. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Test on Another Computer: To rule out issues with your computer's USB ports, try connecting the printer to a different computer.
Inspect for Hardware Issues: Check the printer’s USB port for any physical damage or debris. If there’s any visible damage, it may require repair or replacement.
Uninstall/Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall: Go to Device Manager, find the printer under “Printers” or “Universal Serial Bus controllers,” right-click, and select “Uninstall device.”
- Reinstall: Disconnect the printer, restart your computer, and then reconnect the printer to let Windows attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically. Alternatively, you can download the latest drivers from the HP website and install them manually.
Check for Conflicts: Ensure no other USB devices are causing conflicts. Disconnect other USB devices temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
Run Hardware Troubleshooter (Windows):
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select “Additional troubleshooters” and run the “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, the problem might indeed be with the printer's USB interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
