Hi @frudo31,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer is showing error code UU_400_EB000U0701, and you cannot use the HP Smart app. Let’s go through some steps to address this.

Restart Printer and Device

Turn off your printer and the device running HP Smart (PC, phone, tablet).

Wait 30–60 seconds, then turn them back on.

This refreshes temporary connectivity issues.

Check Internet Connection

Make sure your device is on a stable Wi-Fi network.

HP Smart requires a 2.4 GHz connection; 5 GHz only or unstable Wi-Fi can cause this error.

Reinstall HP Smart App

Uninstall the HP Smart app completely.

Reboot your device.

Reinstall the latest version from App Store / Google Play / Microsoft Store.

Reset Printer Network Settings

On the printer, press and hold Wireless + Cancel (X) together for 10 seconds.

The wireless light will blink → this clears old Wi-Fi info.

Try adding the printer again in HP Smart.

Update Printer Firmware

If the printer can still connect to Wi-Fi, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause connection errors with HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I understand you’re unable to complete the setup, and the HP Smart app still shows error UU_400_EB000U0701 even after trying the earlier steps. Let’s go through a few additional checks that usually resolve this issue.

Confirm HP Smart account sign-in

Open the HP Smart app and make sure you are signed in with an HP account, not just using it as a guest.

This error commonly appears when the app cannot validate the account during setup.

Check date, time, and region on your device

Ensure the date, time, and time zone on your phone or computer are set automatically.

Incorrect system time can block HP Smart from completing secure registration.

Temporarily disable VPN, firewall, or security software

If you are using a VPN, turn it off during setup.

On a computer, temporarily disable third-party antivirus/firewall software and try again.

These can block HP Smart’s secure connection.

Use a different network or mobile hotspot (test step)

Connect your phone or computer to a mobile hotspot and try completing setup.

If setup completes on hotspot, the issue is related to router/network settings.

Perform a full printer power reset

Turn the printer on.

Disconnect the power cable from the printer and from the wall outlet.

Wait 2 full minutes.

Plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet (not a power strip) and turn the printer back on.

Re-add the printer using “Set up a new printer”

Open HP Smart.

Remove the printer from the app if listed.

Click Add Printer / Set up a new printer (do not choose “Add existing printer”).

Follow the on-screen steps from the beginning.

Try setup from a different device

If you are using a phone, try setting up from a Windows or macOS computer, or vice versa.

This helps rule out device-specific app issues.

Check printer control panel for errors

Make sure there are no blinking error lights or error messages on the printer display.

Confirm the printer stays powered on and idle during setup.

I hope this helps.
