HP ENVY Inspire 7958e All-in-One Printer

I am trying to re-install printer drivers to set up my printer.  I can print from my phone or tablet, but unable from laptop.  The HP Easy Start is unable to find the printer, which is on the same network. Entering the IP address does not work either.  I have conducted resets on all devices and reconnected the Envy printer.

Appreciate assistance.

@JSeibold,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

1. Ensure Printer and Laptop Are on the Same Network

  • Double-check that both your laptop and the HP printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is essential for communication between devices.
  • You can verify the printer’s IP address by printing a network configuration page:
    1. Press the Home button on the printer’s control panel.
    2. Navigate to Setup > Network > Print Network Configuration Report.
    3. This will provide the IP address of your printer.

2. Check for Firewall/Antivirus Interference

  • Sometimes, a firewall or antivirus program can block communication between your laptop and the printer.
  • Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus and attempt to reconnect. If successful, re-enable the firewall after setup and adjust the firewall settings if necessary.

3. Uninstall and Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • On your laptop, uninstall the existing printer drivers:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click the HP ENVY 7958e printer and select Remove Device.
  • Download the latest printer drivers from the official HP support page (use the printer’s model to find the correct drivers).
  • Run the installer and follow the steps to set up the printer again.

4. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP's website.
  • Run the tool and let it troubleshoot and attempt to fix any issues with your printer setup.

5. Manually Add Printer (without HP Easy Start)

  • Try adding the printer manually via Windows:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Click Add a printer.
    3. Choose The printer I want isn’t listed.
    4. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
    5. Enter the IP address of your printer (you can find it in the configuration page printed earlier).
    6. Select the correct driver from the list or install the driver from your downloaded files.

6. Check for IP Address Conflicts

  • Make sure the printer’s IP address doesn’t conflict with other devices on the network. You can either set a static IP address for your printer or let it use DHCP, ensuring it doesn’t change every time it reconnects to the network.

7. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date.
  • Check the HP website for firmware updates for the HP ENVY 7958e printer and follow the instructions for updating.

8. Reset Network Settings on Printer

  • If the issue persists, try resetting the printer’s network settings:
    1. On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
    2. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network (using the printer's screen).

9. Check for Router Issues

  • Sometimes, routers have issues that can prevent devices from connecting. Try restarting your router and modem.
  • If you have a dual-band router (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting the printer to the 2.4 GHz network for better compatibility.

10. Ensure Correct Printer Connection Settings

  • Make sure your printer is set to connect over Wi-Fi and not USB or Ethernet if it’s supposed to be a wireless connection.

11. Check Laptop’s Network Settings

  • Ensure that your laptop's network settings allow communication with local network devices. You can check this by trying to access other devices on the same network to ensure the laptop has a proper network connection.

12. Printer Connection on Other Devices

  • Since your phone and tablet can print, test whether they use the same IP address as the laptop. This could help you confirm that the printer is correctly connected to the network.
  • If your laptop can still not detect the printer but mobile devices can, this further points to a laptop-specific issue (like firewall, driver, or network setup).

13. Test Another Laptop or PC

  • Try connecting the printer to a different laptop or PC on the same network to see if the issue is specific to the laptop you're using.
