Just bought a new Samsung Book 4 Laptop Running AMD Snapdraggon X+ with windows 11 installed but I am unable to Install software for HP8620 Office Jet Pro. Every time I run the downloaded software it comes up with a error message due to compatibility error. I can add the printer manually but unable to use the HP software package, this was not on problem on my older Lenovo laptop runing Window 10. Any ideas on a work around?

Hi @Hillyx

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how disappointing it feels to set up your new Samsung Book 4 and then run into compatibility errors with the OfficeJet Pro 8620 software, especially when everything worked smoothly on your older Windows 10 laptop.

You’ve already done well by adding the printer manually, so let’s look at practical ways to get full functionality on Windows 11 with your Snapdragon system.

1. Use the HP App instead of the legacy software package

  • The full‑feature software installer for the OfficeJet Pro 8620 was designed for older Intel/AMD x86 systems and may not run correctly on ARM‑based processors like Snapdragon.
  • The HP App is the modern replacement and works across Windows 11 devices.
  • Download it here: HP App Overview.
  • Once installed, add your printer and you’ll have access to scanning, printing, and maintenance features.

2. Install the basic driver package

  • Go to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 Drivers page.
  • Choose Windows 11 as your operating system.
  • Download the “Basic Drivers” instead of the full‑feature software.
  • This ensures compatibility with ARM‑based systems while still allowing printing and scanning through the HP App.

3. Use Windows built‑in print and scan features

  • Once the basic driver is installed, you can use Windows’ native Print Management and Windows Scan app for simple tasks.
  • This is a reliable fallback if the HP App is not yet installed.

4. Firmware update for the printer

  • On the same drivers page, check for the latest firmware update for the OfficeJet Pro 8620.
  • Updating firmware ensures smooth communication with newer operating systems.

5. Connection method

  • For best results, connect the printer via Wi‑Fi or Ethernet rather than USB.
  • USB drivers may be more limited on ARM‑based laptops, while network connections allow the HP App to manage the printer fully.

By combining the basic driver with the HP App, you’ll regain the full set of features without relying on the older installer that throws compatibility errors.
