HP Ink Tank Wireless 415
Microsoft Windows 11

Dear HP Support Team,

I am facing an issue with my HP Ink Tank Wireless 415 printer. Despite performing a factory reset and following all recommended steps to reset the network and system settings, the printer continues to prompt for a custom password. I am unable to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or connect via Wi-Fi Direct due to this password restriction.

Here are the steps I’ve already tried:

  • Factory reset using the button combination (Power + Cancel + Wireless + Copy Black).
  • Network reset by holding the Wireless and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
  • Attempted to access EWS via IP address, but login credentials are not accepted.
  • Tried default passwords like “admin” and leaving the field blank.
  • Printed the Network Configuration Page to retrieve IP and Wi-Fi Direct details.

Unfortunately, none of these steps have resolved the issue. I suspect the password may be stored in non-volatile memory and not cleared during reset.

Could you please assist with:

  • Resetting or clearing the custom password.
  • Providing a firmware override or remote unlock procedure if applicable.

Looking forward to your support.

Best regards,
Mohan.

Hi @JCM-006,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Ink Tank Wireless 415 printer keeps prompting for a custom password, even after a factory reset and network reset. You’ve already done a great job trying all the right steps. Let’s go deeper and resolve this.

The printer stores custom EWS (Embedded Web Server) credentials in non-volatile memory, which may not be cleared by standard resets. This can block access to:

  • Wi-Fi Direct
  • EWS via IP address
  • HP Smart app advanced settings

Steps to Try Next

1. Access EWS via Wi-Fi Direct

Even if the printer isn’t on your network:

  • Connect your PC or phone to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (SSID and password are on the Network Configuration Page).
  • Open a browser and go to:
    http://192.168.223.1
  • Try logging in with:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: PIN from the printer label (usually inside the cartridge area or on the back)

If the PIN is missing or doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.

2. Clear Credentials via HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app
  • Go to Advanced Settings > Printer Settings > View All > Advanced Settings
  • If prompted for login, try:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: leave blank, or use the PIN
  • If access is denied, uninstall and reinstall the app, then re-add the printer using Wi-Fi Direct

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
