HP Laser 107w
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hi,

I have a M1 macbook Pro with Big Sur and a HP Laser 107w printer, which is an Airprint one.

I can't connect the printer to the wifi, I tried the. wireless button + WPS but nothing happened.

I also tried the HP Smart procedure but the app cant' see the printer connect via USB cable, but it's working because I can print with the cable attached.

I also tried to update the firmware of the printer by going there: https://support.hp.com/it-it/drivers/selfservice/hp-laser-100-printer-series/24494339/model/24494342
but there are no firmware for me 😕

Can anyone support me on that please?

Thanks

Luca

Up the question.

@LucaGil, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us first connect the devices using the WPS method - Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

  • Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Install the printer using the AirPrint driver.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.

Try printing.

Alternatively, you may also refer to this document to know how to setup the printer using the HP Smart app. Use the latest version 12.7.1

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

If the printer is not detected by the Mac, let us try these steps:

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

To check, select the Go menu on the top of the screen and go to the Applications folder.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus.

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Let me know how it goes.

I have Windows 10. Not a Mac

I cannot get thru setup of software. It asks me to power printer on then connect USB to notebook and printer. says cannot find. I have tried 3 different printer cables (first one was supplied with printer) says not connected. Tried all 3 USB ports (2.0 High speed) no success.

Just to verify notebook is working I tried my old Inkjet (HP) It connects to Old printer, all 3 USB Ports and all 3 cables. So Now I called Niece to bring her Notebook to try with HP 107a. Same issue! Cannot see printer, not printer connected.

Same issue with HP's Print Doctor and HP Support Assistant. Results are all the same conclusion: That HP Laser 107a is not connecting, (There is also no Audio Tone when USB Plugged into Printer or unplugged - same on both Notebooks. Both notebooks have 8GB Rom and 500GB Ram w/ 1TB SDXC ready boost installed)

In this case, I'm afraid the USB port on the printer could have gone bad. As this is a hardware issue, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi Kumar and thank you for the feedback.

I tried your process before and it was not successful. I tried again with the printer next to the router and it went well.

But, as soon as I took out the plug the printer was not linked anymore and if I try again to match it with router it doesn't work.
Is there a way to 'reset all' and try again to link them?
