HP Deskjet 4155e requiring optimization for faster printing, but optimize and print fails when it says "sending file for private pickup" and I just get an error message saying " Unable to complete print job".

I have tried all the solutions for disabling private pickup that I could find online, but there are none of the options available to me to disable this feature in any of my settings. I even tried factory resetting my printer, and reinstalling the app and printer on all of my devices, Nothing has worked to resolve this issue. right now my printer is a useless brick on a subscription service. seriously unhappy with HP services.

Hi @val555555

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

We understand that you are facing the error saying unable to complete print job and you have also tried all the solutions available. We request that you please try a few more steps provided below and give us an update.

Here are the steps you can follow to turn off Private Pickup and get your printer working normally again:

Check the HP App Settings

  • Open the HP App on your phone.
  • Go to the printer settings.
  • Look for the Private Pickup option and toggle it off.
  • If the toggle doesn’t respond, sign out of the app, then sign back in and try again.

Clear the Print Queue

  • On your windows computer, open the Printers & Scanners settings.
  • Select your printer, then choose Open queue.
  • Cancel all pending jobs.
  • Send a fresh test print job to confirm.

Reconnect the Printer to the HP App

  • Remove the printer from the HP App.
  • Close the app completely.
  • Reopen the app and add the printer again.
  • Ensure your phone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Disable Private Pickup via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • On your Windows PC, open a browser.
  • Type the printer’s IP address in the address bar (you can find this on the printer’s control panel under network settings).
  • Log in to the EWS.
  • Navigate to the Settings or Security section.
  • Locate Private Pickup and disable it.
  • Save changes and restart the printer.

Update Firmware and App

  • On the printer’s control panel, check for firmware updates.
  • On your phone, update the HP App to the latest version.
  • Updates often resolve issues with features like Private Pickup.

Test Printing Without Private Pickup

  • After disabling, send a test print job from your Windows PC.
  • Confirm that the job prints immediately without waiting for proximity confirmation.

Have a great day!

Hello Meghana,

I have tried all of the following suggestions multiple times. There is NO option in any settings via mobile app, PC app, EWS etc. . to disable private pickup the only option is in the print preview, and it cannot be interacted with. I have looked many times under every category of settings. I have tried the following solutions:

  • Clearing print queue
  • Removing the printer from the app and setting it up again (both PC and Mobile) as instructed
  • Connecting to the wifi direct
  • Factory resetting the printer and setting it up in my account as a new printer
  • Reinstalling the drivers/firmware and making sure they are up to date
  • PC, Mobile, and Printer are all on the same network

Nothing seems to be removing this option for private pickup or the need to optimize a print.  From what I can determine, this model of HP printer shouldn't even have the private pickup option. Could this be an issue of the model is too old for the HP smart apps software?

Thank you for providing the detailed troubleshooting steps you've already completed. @val555555

The "Private Pickup" option still appears with no way to disable it; this does not appear to be a standard connectivity or queue issue. The HP Deskjet 4155/4155e series should not normally require a Private Pickup setting for local printing, and the option may be associated with an HP Smart feature, cloud-printing configuration, or an account-level setting rather than the printer hardware itself. Given the extensive troubleshooting already performed, the next step would be to have HP Support review the printer's cloud services and HP account configuration, as this is likely beyond the settings available through the HP Smart app or Embedded Web Server (EWS).

To help HP investigate further, please provide:

  • A screenshot of the Private Pickup message or option
  • The exact error shown when the print job fails
  • Whether the issue occurs when printing from both HP Smart and the native print dialog
  • The printer's firmware version

We appreciate your patience and look forward to helping resolve this issue.
