how to fix Unable to connect to WebServices to complete the hp printer setup.
The "Unable to connect to Web Services" error during HP printer setup is fairly common and usually means your printer can't reach HP's servers. This often affects features like HP ePrint, Instant Ink, or cloud printing. Here are steps to fix it:
✅ 1. Check Internet Connection
Make sure your printer and device (PC/phone) are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
Ensure the network has internet access, not just local access.
✅ 2. Restart Everything
Power cycle:
Unplug the printer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Restart your router and your computer or phone.
✅ 3. Check Printer Date & Time
Incorrect date/time can prevent secure connections.
On the printer: go to Settings > Preferences > Date and Time and make sure it’s correct.
✅ 4. Reconnect Web Services
Try turning Web Services off and on again:
On the printer screen, go to Setup > Web Services or Network Setup > Web Services.
Choose Remove Web Services or Disable Web Services.
After it's off, re-enable Web Services and follow prompts.
✅ 5. Check Firewall / Router Settings
Some routers block web services.
Access your router settings and ensure firewall or security filters aren't blocking the printer.
Enable UPnP if it's available on your router.
Avoid guest networks; use the main Wi-Fi.
✅ 6. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)
HP has a free tool to diagnose and fix printer problems.
Download: HP Print and Scan Doctor
✅ 7. Update Printer Firmware
An outdated firmware might block connections.
Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer or do it from the HP Smart app.
✅ 8. Manually Set DNS
Sometimes using Google’s DNS can help:
Go to printer’s network settings.
Manually set DNS to:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4
