Hello. I am unable to completely install my ENVY 5640. I have uploaded the latest installation pack from the Web "EN5640_Full_WebPack_40.13.1176.exe".
When I launch the exe the process starts smoothly the printer is seen on the WiFi network. I click on it to start the installation. I see a popup window named "HP Envy 5640 Series" with a button "Launch App". I click on it. Finally I get a new popup windows from HP Smart displaying the new ENVY 5640 as if installed. If I try to do a scan it works fine. If I try to print a file, the application says that the printer is not completely installed and propose to install it. I say OK. Then it try to install the driver for a while. Then it comes back saying that it could not and propose to do the installation from the "Printer and scanner" menu in the admin menu. I click on "add a new printer". The right printer is discovered again with the right name "HPDF6276 (HP ENVY 5640 series)", I click on it ask for "adding the printer". Here again it tries for a while and comes back with the failure, saying that the "driver is not available".
I have done may try with "HP Doctor" and other utilities, is always comeback with the same message "driver is not available".
Can you please help and provide me with some new options?
Please let me know if any questions.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Eric
PS: Each time I am trying again I am asking for de-installation of all applications on my system with "5640" in it.
PS: On the same system I have other HP Envy printer installed and everything worked fine: ex "HP ENVY 5540 Series", "HP ENVY Photo 6200 Series" ...
PS: This printer is not new and it had already been installed on this computer, I believe back in 2017 when the printer was first purchased.
PS: Other computers (All on Windows 10) are using this printer without problem

Hello Riddle_Decipher. Thanks for your message and proposal.
In one word it did not work, but please find below the log of my effort. I hope that this will help you find an option to solve my problem.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features 2.) Select your HP Printer 3.) Select Uninstall
Ok: Found "Programs and features". searched for programs including the keyword "5640" in their name. Des-installed a first program "HP ENVY 5640 Series Help". I tried to des-install the second application found: "base SW for HP Envy 5640 series peripherals" but the desinstallation process generates an error popup windows saying: "Error-2147467259: No pilot module to be taken care off, found" (I try to translate the error message as it is showing up in French). Only option is to say OK. I click on OK. This same message is poping up again. Click on OK again. Then the process ends as if done. But if I do the search again with key word "5640" the same program is coming back. Looks like it was not deleted. If I try to delete again, same things happen (popup error messages twice, ...).
On the same program "base SW for HP Envy 5640 series peripherals" if I try the option "Modify" then I get a new error popup windows saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable", "Click on OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "E5640x64.msi" in the box below". Try both "Try again" and also tried to find the .msi file somewhere on my disk but could not.
Trying to do the remaining of your proposal in case but not sure...
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
Ok found the menu. Found my printer which still had the status message saying "Driver not available". Clicked on remove the printer. Removing done OK.
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
Ok found a driver for "5640 printer". Removed it OK. using the choice to remove the "driver only", not the "Package of drivers" (I still need my other HP printer to work, right?)
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.
Downloaded again the file (just in case). Started the installation with the new downloaded file. Process starts OK. It is ending very fast saying installation done. Believe it did not do much. Never asked for the printer connection type (USB or WiFi)... If I go in "Devices and Printers windows", I can not find the printer... just in case tried to do "add printer", the printer with the right name is found, If I click on "Add printer", same as before the Popup application is proposed and the status for the printer is now "Driver no available".
I started your proposal process above again, trying to clean everything up again. Could not get ride of "base SW for HP Envy 5640 series peripherals" again. Finished up you process again and then I used the utility "Revo Unisntaller" to get ride of "base SW for HP Envy 5640 series peripherals". This was successful. No "5640" program anywhere anymore.
Tried to install the printer again with the downloaded file. This time the process starts by installing 3 SW again including "base SW for HP Envy 5640 series peripherals" (plus the "Help" and an "Improvement helper". Then asked for type of installation process: Automatic of Manual. Choose "automatic". The printer was found again on the network. choose it. Get the popup windows saying the the installation process over the network is started and going on. It goes for a while. The popup application windows "HP ENVY 5640 Series" is showing up on the side, with its button "launch app". As the installation process windows is not finishing I launch the "HP ENVY 5640 Series" application. Quickly the a "HP Smart" window is showing up with the image of the 5640 printer showing with status "ready". in the meantime the installation process windows was updated with an error windows "Network Installation failure" (Impossible to install the peripheral over the network).
Back in the "HP Smart window". If I click on the choice to print a file , a popup windows is coming saying that the printer was not completely installed and proposing to complete the process. Asked for the process to be completed. Windows saying that it is "Installing the driver". This is going on for awhile. Then it is coming back saying that "A problem had happened" and proposing to do the installation manually using the "Printer and scanners" menu. Went on doing it. This time the discovery process finds 2 printers "HPDF6276 (HP ENVY 5640 series) Printer, InkJet Printer, scanner" and "HP ENVY 5640 series [DF6276] Printer". clicked on "HPDF6276 (HP ENVY 5640 series) Printer, InkJet Printer, scanner" as I want the printer and the scanner to work. The process starts and then the popup application windows "HP ENVY 5640 Series" is showing up on the side, with its button "launch app". The printer "HPDF6276 (HP ENVY 5640 series)is now showing up again with the status "Driver not available"...Same loop starting again.
Not sure what to do next ???
Thanks in advance for your help. Please let me know if any question. Regards.

Hello Echo_Lake . Thanks for your proposal.
One quick question before I go and apply your proposal.
When you say: "Select all the HP ENVY printer entries and uninstall them", does this means that I also have to select the entries that I believe I will find which are used for the other printers that are currently working (e.i. my other 5540, the 6200, ...)? Doing this will imply that I have to re-install them later on?
Thanks in advance for your clarification.
Regards
Eric

Hello Echo_Lake,
Please find below the log of my effort. Good news is that it finally worked, but really I am not sure what is the exact fix at the end. Please see below. looking forward for your feedback if any.
Thanks for the support. Let me know if any question.

____
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Follow steps from the link: Click here
HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.0.6 starts OK. It finds the 5640 printer with status "Uninstalled". Select it. It comes back saying that the full package to use the printer is not installed and should be installed. Download again the full package. Starts again the installation. Proposes to connect a new peripheral. Choosing the automatic process. Printer is found again. Installation process over the network starts and goes on for a while. it finally comes back saying that the network installation failed. Choose "cancel". Process goes on looking for a solution over the network for a while. Comes back saying that next the "HP failure Installation - Unknown peripheral" utility will be installed on the computer and I shall use it.
I go for it. It presents the "Solution #1". I click to get the windows from control panel "Programs and feature". Delete the 3 entries which include "5640" in their name. Hard un-plug the printer and power it back on. Make sure the two services ("Network discovery from host supplier" and "Resource function discovery publishing" (translation not sure)) are on "manual" status , in the service windows.
As after it proposes to start again the installation, I do your below proposal starting with step #2 (step #1 already done).
Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP ENVY printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
No "5640" printer entry in the "Device and Printer" control panel.
In the printui.exe utility, when I delete the drivers with "5640" in their name, this time I choose to delete the "driver and all related package" (Option #2). It goes on but comes back saying the it was able to delete the HP ENVY 5640 Series driver, but was not able to delete the package: "hpygid20.inf". Not sure what it is? Says Ok.
the "Hewlett Packard" folder is empty.
To reinstall, click here.
Goes on with the installation of the package again.... Automatic choice ... Printer discovered ... Network installation starts again ... for a while ... and ends up with failure again ...
If the issue continues, uninstall and reinstall printer Basic drivers from the link: Click here
Tried this option. Downloaded the package ... Clean up everything (No printer entry, No application with "5640" in its name, Do the printui, and confirms that "Hewlett Packard" folder is empty".
Launched the installation of the package. Same as before, ... , finally the "Network Installation" starts and goes for a while ... and ends with failure again.
If the issue still continues, install using the Windows Built-in Print Driver: Click here
Could not really make this work.
Go feed up with all those tries.
Tried to install again the printer from the "Devices and printer" menu. Failed again. But I then saw on the right hand side of the window, an option to launch a utility to help solve issues. Clicked on it. It checked all kind of things , spooler issues ... And finally proposed a list of available printer and proposed to try to install again a new printer if the desired printer was not in the list. Tried it. after a few windows and options went on with the choice of finding the printer using its TCP/IP address. Went on for a while. Then came back asking if installation had to be done with available driver on the system (recommended choice). Click OK. And a new printer entry for the 5640 showed up above the old one. The old one still have "driver not available" while the new one had no status showing up. The utility proposed to print a test page. Did it and the test page showed up!!!! Deleted the old 5640 entry with its"Driver not available" status. Now I have only the latest "5640" entry and everything seems to be working fine!!!
Not really sure what fix finally worked... I hope that the entry will not disappear again!!!
I provide all this log of the effort, hopping somebody can make sens out of it.
Thanks for the help and support provided. Regards
