Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently had a had disk failure and had my computer upgraded and data recovered.  The company installed Windows 10 updated with some Windows 11 features.  Now I cannot install HP1050 printer.

Hi @donald456,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble installing your HP 1050 printer/scanner after upgrading your computer and reinstalling Windows, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Ensure Proper Connections: Make sure your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB cable or through a network connection if it's a network printer.
  • Check Printer Power: Ensure that your printer is powered on and not displaying any error messages.
  • Download Latest Drivers: Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP 1050 printer/scanner. Sometimes, the drivers included with Windows may not be the most up-to-date.
  • Compatibility Mode: Right-click on the driver setup file you downloaded and select "Properties." Go to the "Compatibility" tab and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for." Choose your previous version of Windows from the dropdown menu and then try running the installer again.
  • Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall software you have installed on your computer, as they might be blocking the installation process.
  • Windows Update: Make sure your Windows operating system is fully up-to-date by running Windows Update. Sometimes, missing updates can cause issues with hardware installation.
  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Windows search bar), locate your printer under "Print queues" or "Other devices," right-click on it, and select "Update driver." Choose the option to search automatically for updated driver software.
  • Try a Different USB Port/Cable: If you're connecting your printer via USB, try using a different USB port on your computer. Also, consider trying a different USB cable in case the current one is faulty.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can diagnose and resolve many common printing and scanning problems automatically.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the issue and successfully install your HP 1050 printer/scanner on your upgraded Windows 10/11 computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
