Hi @tanwie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the urgency of the situation. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and install the HP LaserJet 1018 printer driver.

  • Download the Latest Driver: Make sure you are using the latest driver for your HP LaserJet 1018. Visit the official HP website or the support page for your printer model, and download the latest driver for your operating system.
  • Uninstall Previous Driver: Before installing the new driver, uninstall any previous versions that may be causing conflicts. Go to "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Programs and Features," find the old printer driver, and uninstall it.
  • Disconnect the Printer: Disconnect the printer from your computer before starting the installation process. Only connect it when prompted during the driver installation.
  • Run the Driver Installation as Administrator: Right-click on the driver installation file and choose "Run as administrator." This ensures that the installation process has the necessary permissions.
  • Compatibility Mode: If you are using an older operating system, try running the driver installer in compatibility mode. Right-click on the installer, select "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, and choose a previous version of Windows if applicable.
  • Windows Update: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date. Run Windows Update to make sure you have the latest service packs and updates installed.
  • Check USB Connection: If you are connecting the printer via USB, try using a different USB port on your computer. Also, make sure the USB cable is in good condition.
  • Use Windows Troubleshooter: Run the built-in Windows Printer Troubleshooter. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Additional troubleshooters" > "Printer" troubleshooter.
  • Manual Installation: Instead of relying on the setup wizard, you can try manually installing the printer. Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers," click "Add a printer," choose "Add a local printer," and follow the prompts. When prompted for the driver, select the downloaded driver file.

Remember to restart your computer after installing the driver to ensure that the changes take effect.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
