HP OfficeJet 5252
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm using Publisher 365, and I'm trying to address A8 size (8.375" by 5.125") envelopes for my Christmas cards. Unfortunately, A8 envelopes aren't in the list of Paper Size options. When I select something close in size, my printer tells me that it has detected that my envelopes mismatch to my project requirements. If the printer is smart enough to detect the envelope size, why do I even have to choose one at all?
The printer settings dialog box allows me to select a "Custom" size--even saving it with a name.  Once I save it, that's it.  It doesn't change any settings to use this custom sized envelope. It's completely useless.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @NondescriptUser,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems that you're having trouble printing an A8 envelope with your HP OfficeJet 5252. This printer supports custom paper sizes, so you can print A8-sized envelopes, but there are a few steps to follow to make it work properly. Here's how you can address the issue.

Set Custom Paper Size in Publisher:

  • Open Publisher 365 and create a new document.
  • Go to Page Design > Size > More Page Sizes.
  • Enter the dimensions for an A8 envelope (8.375" x 5.125") as the custom size.
  • Save it, and it should now show up in your size options.

Set the Printer to Use Custom Size:

  • Go to Print Settings.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet 5252 as the printer.
  • Click Printer Properties or Preferences.
  • Under Paper/Quality or Paper Size, select the Custom Size option.
  • Input the A8 dimensions (8.375" x 5.125").
  • Make sure to Save the custom size if prompted.

Manual Feed & Envelope Tray:

  • For printing on envelopes, make sure you place the envelope in the printer's manual feed tray correctly (usually face-up, with the flap on the left).
  • Select the correct paper type (Envelope) in the print dialog box to prevent misfeed issues.

Avoid Mismatch Detection:

  • Ensure the Paper Type is set to Envelope in the print settings.
  • If the printer still detects a mismatch, it might be due to incorrect paper type settings or manual feed issues. Double-check these settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to print A8 envelopes successfully.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said, "The printer settings dialog box allows me to select a "Custom" size--even saving it with a name.  Once I save it, that's it.  It doesn't change any settings to use this custom sized envelope. It's completely useless."
