I switched providers and am no longer able to print wireless after getting a new hotspot.

I can see the printer in the network window, but there is no printer in my manage devices window on the laptop.

I tried all the options to add a new printer (it is connected to the network, the IP address is correct '192' but it just doesn't come up.

I finally manually added the printer using lpt1 port

Now, I can see the printer in the selection menu - but it errors out and I'm not sure now how to get it to 'see' the printer that shows up in the network window.

Hi @blakeld

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I understand that you are unable to print wirelessly after changing the Internet Service Provider

I'll be glad to help you

Let's start with a Printer Reset.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Next, uninstall the Printer Driver from Root Level

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart your computer and download the Full Feature Software from Here and follow the onscreen instructions.

Try printing and let me know how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂

Hi there,

Thank you for your response, I had found your solutions above in previous posts and tried them more than once, to no avail. I finally had to uninstall the printer (again) and found my original CD and reinstalled from the CD - it still wasn't straightforward for some reason, but I finally got the darn thing printing again.

I've been gone two days - and now I can't print again - HP Smart can see the printer but it is 'offline' and I can find no setting or menu that will let me turn it online!

Now what do I need to do? Thanks in advance

Hi @blakeld

Thanks for keeping me posted. I suggest you run the HP Print & Scan Doctor from Here

If the issue persists, please download the Firmware from Here and assign a Manual IP Address.

1) Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
5) Click Manual IP
6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.

Keep me posted.

Thanks 🙂

HI there, my daughter told me yesterday that she could print to the printer as long as she disconnected the internet and then connected to the printer.  Being so focused, I never thought to try this (as shown in the network connection window) but why is the printer showing as something to connect to, like the hotspot? do I have something set up incorrectly, that I can't just send items to print? versus having to connect directly to it on the wireless network?

I can't get to the IP address in my web browser, it just says it can't find it - at least until I connect to it directly - I hesitated doing anythinng until I told you about above. As I thought it might have a bearing on the real issue?

Thanks

Hi @blakeld,

It looks like you were interacting with @KrazyToad, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm the Flower_Bud & I'm at your service.

Looks like Wi-Fi Direct Feature must be enabled on your printer, this is why you're seeing the printer as a hotspot on your computer. To turn off Wi-Fi Direct Feature, follow these steps:

1. From the printer control panel, touch (wireless direct).

2. User the slider next to HP Wireless Direct to turn wireless direct off.

Once completed, try these steps:

Restore network defaults:

To restore the printer to the original network settings

1. From the printer control panel, touch and slide your finger across the screen, touch Setup, and then touch Network Setup.

2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes.

A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.

3. Touch OK.

Connect your printer to Wireless:

The Wireless Setup Wizard provides an easy way to set up and manage the wireless connection to your printer.

  1. On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon , and then touch the Wireless Menu icon .

  2. Touch Wireless Settings, then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

Figure: Example of choosing the Wireless Setup Wizard

Image: Example of choosing the Wireless Setup Wizard

The printer searches for available wireless networks.

    Figure: Example of available networks

    Image: Example of available networks
  3. Touch the name of your wireless network, then follow the instructions on the printer control panel to connect the printer to your wireless network.

Then try printing 🙂

Keep me posted,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers!
