@AMariaM, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you're unable to update the printer firmware, follow the steps below-

Uninstall the software

Use the following steps to remove the HP print driver and software from a Mac OS X computer.

  1. Open the Macintosh hard drive:

    • From the desktop

Double-click the Macintosh HD icon from the desktop.

    • From the Dock

Click the Finder icon in the Dock, and then click the hard drive under Devices.

  2. Click Applications, and then click the Hewlett-Packard folder.

  3. Double-click the HP Uninstaller. The HP Uninstaller opens.

  4. Click Continue.

  5. Select the HP product to remove, and then click Uninstall.

  6. When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password, and then click OK.

  7. When the Uninstaller finishes, drag any icons for the product to the Trash.

  8. Return to Applications, and then click the Utilities folder.

  9. Double-click Activity Monitor. The Activity Monitor opens.

  10. Under Process Name, click any process that begins with HP, and then click Quit Process.

  11. Click Quit again.

  12. Close the Activity Monitor.

  13. Empty the Trash.

    note:

If you cannot delete some items, return to the Activity Monitor and end the process, and then try to empty the Trash again.

  14. Disconnect the printer, and then restart your computer.

Run Apple Software Update

Open Apple Software Update on your Mac to check for and install any OS X and printer driver updates.

  1. Turn on the printer, and make sure that it has paper in the tray.

  2. Connect a USB cable to the printer and the Mac, or make sure that your printer is connected to your wired or wireless network.

  3. On the Mac, click the Apple menu , and then click Software Update, or click About this Mac, and then click Software Update. A list of available updates displays.

    note:

Depending on your version of OS X, you might need to refresh the page to view the latest list of available updates. Click Store on the top menu bar, and then click Reload Page to update the list. If no updates display, continue to the step to add your printer to the Printers list.

  4. Click Install or Update All to install any updates.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
