I need to reinstall my HP Officejet printer after a HD crash. I went to the website, downloaded the full set of software but when I attach the printer to the computer, it does not see the printer. I have had this issue in the past but always was able to get it to work after numerous tries. Any suggestions?

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Great observations and presentation of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did this happen after a software or OS update?
- Did it occur after a power outage or surge?
- Is it a wireless or USB connection?
- Does the printer make photocopies directly?
Furnish all the requested information for me to assist you correctly.
Meanwhile, I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-series-g510/3919445/docume... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer.
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware.
- Then run HP print and scan doctor by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-LaserJet-1000-Printer-series/439423/model/439428/document/c0... (HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)
Now check for issue resolution. If it continues, then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these steps:
In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
Download and install the printer software from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-seri...
15.) Connect the USB cable only when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.
Also, make sure that the latest Windows 10 updates are installed on the computer correctly.
This should fix the issue.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
