LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw
Microsoft Windows XP

I installed the MFP M227fdw last Summer onto the Windows XP side of my computer and everything has worked fine until yesterday, when I needed to reboot Windows 10(an a separate drive) in order to do my Income Tax.  Windows 10 did not reboot properly and screwed around for hours, destroying files etc. and deleted the printer drivers.  I have had both XP and W.10 for the past year and no problem, but W.10 has been turned off most of the time.

W.10 was not on-line when I installed the printer last year, and no problem installing it on XP.

Unable to reinstall drivers on-line or off the disc.  Says that 2 files cannot be found on the disc(??)

When I try on-line you say you don't support my software.  Give me a break!!!

Missing files are hpb6sy 3517_x86help.cab and hpb6sy 3517datamap.xml

Cannot find them anywhere and not on backup external drive.

Need to have these two files and then can probably get printer working again.

Cannot install on W.10 at this time as W.10 is refusing to boot up properly after the mess it has created.

Very frustrating....can't Microsoft ever get anything right??

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you have dual boot installed on your computer ( both Windows XP and Windows 10 ), but now that the Windows 10 is not booting up it has corrupted the Windows XP drivers as well.

I'll try my best to help.

I suggest you uninstall the Printer driver from Root level on your XP OS and download the Basic printer driver

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart your computer and download the basic drivers for your Printer from this Link: https://hp.care/2qoShPd

I would also advise you to get the Windows 10 up and running, then you can download the Full Feature Software from this Link: https://hp.care/2qmFSvd

Keep me posted how it goes.

Thank you 🙂
