I have just bought a HP Envy 6432e printer. I was not too happy about having to set it up via an app but went with it. The app on my PC would not connect so I had to resort to using my phone. Eventually it appears to be set up but when I try to print the test page is just one line. I have tried to print a normal word document but only get a blank page. The virtual assistant was no help. Any ideas on what I have done wrong?

HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
The HP Smart app is the main software for your printer. Install it on the device you want to print from, and then use it to set up the printer connection. By installing the HP Smart app, you also install all drivers necessary to print and scan.
Install the HP Smart app
Download the HP Smart app from your app store.
- Microsoft Store (Windows): HP Smart (in English)
- Mac App Store (macOS): HP Smart for Desktop (in English)
- Google Play Store (Android): HP Smart (in English)
- App Store (iOS): HP Smart (in English)
Note:
Having trouble downloading the app? Go to Unable to download and install the HP Smart printer app for more information.
For more printer setup information, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Set up your printer using the HP Smart app
Use the guided printer setup in the HP Smart app to connect your printer over USB or to the internet.
Note:
If you have an HP+ printer, go to HP+ printer setup (HP Smart app) to learn how to activate your advanced features during setup. HP+ printers have an 'e' in the model number. For example, HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e or ENVY Inspire 7200e printer.
- If you are setting up the printer on a Wi-Fi network, prepare the printer for setup.
- Make sure your computer or mobile device operating system is up to date.
- Place the printer and the computer or mobile device near the Wi-Fi router.
- Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect it to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection method during the setup.
- Turn on Bluetooth so the HP Smart app can detect the printer during the setup.
- For mobile devices, make sure to enable the mobile device location service when prompted and allow the app to use your location to detect the printer and offer solutions during setup.
- Open the HP Smart app.
- If a Welcome to HP Smart screen displays, click Accept All.
- Set up or add the printer.
- If the option to set up or sign in displays, click Set Up a New Printer.
- If the app home screen displays, click Add Printer or the Add printer icon (
or
).
Examples of Add Printer in Windows (left) and Android (right)
- For mobile devices, tap Get Started under Set up a new printer. If prompted to select a connection type, click WiFi or Ethernet Cable, and then tap Continue. Prepare the printer for the connection, and then tap Continue.
- Find your printer in the list, click the printer name or Set Up, and then follow the prompts to finish the setup. It might take a few minutes before the printer displays.
Example of printers found by the HP Smart app
- If you are using a Wi-Fi connection and your printer is not found, continue to the next step.
- Restore Wi-Fi setup mode.
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, open the Wireless
or Setup
menu, select Network Setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Use the control panel buttons to
- Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer.
- Within 2 hours, close then reopen the HP Smart app, and then add the printer again.
Make your HP printer more secure (wireless only)
Secure your printer to prevent others from accessing it.
- Make sure the network, printer, and device are connected to a secure
connection. Avoid connecting the printer to open, public networks.
- Use a strong password for your Wi-Fi network (your router), and change it on a regular basis.
- Create a unique printer display name to easily identify your printer when there are several printers on a network.
- Limit access from others for printer features that enable remote printing, such as Print Anywhere or HP ePrint.
For more information, go to Secure your HP printer against unwanted access.
Use the HP Smart app to print, scan, copy, and fax
Print, scan, copy, and fax from the HP Smart app home screen tiles. You can also check printer status, troubleshoot issues, order supplies, and set printer preferences.
Example of the HP Smart app home screen (mobile, computer)
- To print, select a print job type from the home screen, select the item to print, use the photo editing tools if necessary, and then change any print job settings.
- To scan, choose to scan from the printer scanner glass or document feeder, import a photo, or use the computer or mobile device camera to capture a photo or document. Use the editing tools if necessary, and then print, save, or share the scanned item. For more information, go to How to scan with an HP Printer.
- To copy (Android, iOS only), open the Copy tile, use the camera to capture a document or photo, select the size and number of copies, and then print the item in color or black and white.
- To manage the printer, click the image of your printer on the home screen or Printer Settings (Windows only) to change preferences and options, check the printer status, and more.
- To add or remove home screen tiles, select Personalize Tiles at the bottom of the screen (Android, iOS, macOS) or in the App Settings
(Windows).
- To learn about other app features, select one of the following links:
- Diagnose and Fix: Run this troubleshooting tool built into the HP Smart app for Mac and Windows computers if you are experiencing issues with your printer.
- Print Anywhere: Use your printer when you are away from home and have access to a cellular network or Wi-Fi with internet access.
- Shortcuts: Create one-touch Shortcuts (formerly Smart Tasks) to quickly complete repetitive tasks such as emailing, printing, and saving scans.
- Mobile Fax: Securely send documents to a fax machine or fax-capable printer

Hi Bernard,
Thank you for the information. I was able to connect to the app etc.. and eventually print a page however the black ink was not printing despite the cartridge being full. Additionally the auto paper feeder did not work. I have since discovered we were sold a dud machine from the shop. The serial number did not match the box and was in fact a machine that was registered over 3 years ago - probably why it was returned as it did not work. It has since been returned and we wil not be buying from that store again.

Hello @nickydwuk,
You have to buy a printer in a computer store, that's their business.
The warranty, in your case, must be applied by the seller of the printer, he was the one who made the mistake.
He has to refund you the full price of the printer, but I think you did the right thing and that he reimbursed you.
Regards,
