Hi @3Lee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re trying to set up your HP Ink Tank Wireless 419 printer and it keeps asking for a custom password that you’ve forgotten, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

**1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

Resetting the printer’s network settings will remove the current Wi-Fi configurations and allow you to set up a new connection. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn on the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered on.
  2. Access the Control Panel: On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Setup or Settings menu.
  3. Navigate to Network Settings:
    • Select Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
  4. Reset Network Settings: Look for an option like Restore Network Defaults or Reset Network Settings and select it.
  5. Confirm Reset: Follow the prompts to confirm the reset. The printer will reboot with default network settings.

**2. Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Once the network settings are reset, you can reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network:

  1. Go to Wireless Setup:
    • On the control panel, navigate to Wireless Setup or Wi-Fi Setup.
  2. Select Your Network: Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
  3. Enter Wi-Fi Password: Enter the Wi-Fi password (make sure it’s correct) and connect.

**3. Use the HP Smart App

If you’re still having trouble, you can use the HP Smart App to set up your printer:

  1. Download HP Smart App: Install the HP Smart App on your smartphone or tablet from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open the App: Launch the app and select Add Printer.
  3. Follow Instructions: The app will guide you through the setup process. It may help you find and connect to the printer without needing the custom password.

**4. Manual Setup via Web Interface

You can also try accessing the printer’s web interface for setup:

  1. Find Printer’s IP Address:
    • Print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to find the IP address.
  2. Access Web Interface:
    • Enter the IP address into a web browser to access the printer’s web interface.
  3. Login:
    • If prompted, use default credentials or consult the printer’s manual for default login information.
  4. Configure Network Settings: Follow the web interface instructions to configure your Wi-Fi settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
