Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot print via wireless or through USB cable on my hp Officejet Pro 8720.  I receive the error message: "unexpected printer configuration error 0x80040154. I have done the hard reset on the printer without any success. With the USB cable I can print a test page, but not my documents or PDFs.

@BSM14 Lets start with power reset as per HP standards, here's how we recommend doing it:

  • Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    • NOTE:
    • HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware:

Unfortunately, the solution did not work. The program stalled during driver installation. I'll try the firmware since I'm not sure what is happening. I have other computers that have no difficulty connecting to the printer, just from this one.

@BSM14 If the issue is limited to one device, Is suggest you check with manufacturer of that computer for a solution,

As the printer seems to have either a compatibility or a driver issue with that specific device.

Keep me posted.
