Tried to correct problem of always having to unplug printer the next day to get it to work.  Saw the update. Printer bricked itself 1/2 way through update.  Now all lights and segments blink. Hitting "POWER" makes the blinking stop BUT all lights and segments stay on.  Smart app can't reach ...printer is not "ON" so can not try again.. Unplugging, plugging in, holding buttons, etc. leaves every light and LCD segment on!!!  Haven't even gone through the initial ink.  Seems unethical to offer an upgrade that bricks the printer.  Class action suit again?

@Garbageisthis, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to recover your printer:

Power Cycle the Printer

Unplug the Printer: Turn off your printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.

Wait for 60 seconds: Allow the printer to fully power down.

Plug it back in: Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Test it: If the issue persists, continue to the next steps.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes printers can get "stuck" in a bad state after a firmware update. You can try a hard reset:

Turn off the printer (via the power button, if it's responsive).

Unplug the printer from the power source.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds while the printer is unplugged. This can sometimes clear any residual charge that might be keeping the printer in an abnormal state.

Plug it back in and try to turn it on again.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Reset to Factory Settings (if possible):

If the printer responds to the "power" button but still has all lights on, see if it has an option in the printer menu to restore factory settings.

Check the Power Source

Ensure stable power: A power surge or unstable power source can cause the printer to fail during a firmware update. Try plugging the printer into a different power outlet, or use a surge protector to ensure stable voltage.

Try Connecting the Printer to HP Smart App Again

After following the above steps, open the HP Smart app on your computer or smartphone.

Try adding the printer again by going to Add Printer in the app.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Looks like all you can do is send the boilerplate answer.  None of that works because the printer will not "turn on".  All lights and segments of LCD are on.  Buttons do not function.  PC no longer sees the printer. The app cannot communicate with the printer - printer is offline! (USB connection) There was no power glitch - everything is on an UPC.  In the middle of the update - everything stopped!

Just admit that the software is faulty, there is no more working firmware in the printer, one can not update if there is no firmware, the printer is bricked and one should never buy HP.
